The Tonga Room - within the mighty Fairmont Hotel, was established in the 1930s around what was a beautiful swimming pool. Now it is an infamous (and apparently good) restaurant - consisting of little fares/whares set around a pool - with a full 'all kinds pacific' theatre looking set - where at happy hour you can order from an island style cocktail list - and then wait for the pacific thunderstorm to come in - with lighting and full rain running for 10 minutes! Pretty confused with its identity - but must have been pretty exotic in early days! Glad to set out after those coconut based drinks to the lovely sunshine of San Francisco. Dark at 9pm at the moment.
